الخلفية: أصبح التدخين الإلكتروني، خاصة بين طلاب الجامعات، مصدر قلق صحي عالمي. تتطلب الشعبية المتزايدة للسجائر الإلكترونية فهماً أعمق لأنماط استخدامها ومواقف ومعتقدات المستخدمين، لا سيما بين الفئات السكانية المحددة مثل طلاب الجامعات في شمال الأردن.
الهدف: تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى التعرف على الاتجاهات والمعتقدات تجاه استخدام السجائر الالكترونية بين طلاب الجامعات في شمال الأردن، كما تسعى ايضا الى استكشاف الفروقات في المواقف والمعتقدات بين الجنسين فيما يتعلق بإستخدام السجائر الالكترونية.
المنهجية: أجريت دراسة وصفية مقطعية، شملت 500 طالب جامعي في جامعات الشمال. تم جمع البيانات باستخدام استبيان منظم لتقييم الخصائص الديموغرافية، وحالة التدخين، والمواقف والمعتقدات تجاه السجائر الإلكترونية. تم استخدام الإحصاءات الوصفية واختبارات كاي تربيع بيرسون لتحليل البيانات.
النتائج: كشفت الدراسة عن انتشار عالٍ للتدخين الإلكتروني، حيث أبلغ 62.0? من المشاركين أنهم يستخدمون السجائر الإلكترونية حالياً، و38? كانوا مستخدمين سابقين. في ما يتعلق بالمواقف، أظهرت 57.4? من الطلاب آراء سلبية تجاه التدخين الإلكتروني، بينما كانت 42.6? من الآراء إيجابية. بالنسبة للمعتقدات، كانت 61.8? من الطلاب مشككين في فوائد وسلامة السجائر الإلكترونية، بينما أظهرت 38.2? معتقدات إيجابية قوية. أظهر التحليل القائم على الجنس اختلافات كبيرة، حيث أظهرت الإناث مواقف أكثر سلبية (69?) مقارنة بالذكور (51?)، وكانت الفروقات في المعتقدات ذات دلالة إحصائية هامشية. الخلاصة: تسلط الدراسة الضوء على انخراط كبير في التدخين الإلكتروني بين طلاب الجامعات في شمال الأردن، إلى جانب تنوع في المواقف والمعتقدات. تؤكد النتائج على الحاجة إلى تدخلات صحية عامة وبرامج تعليمية مستهدفة لمعالجة المفاهيم الخاطئة وتعزيز اتخاذ قرارات مستنيرة بشأن استخدام السجائر الإلكتروني

Background: Vaping, particularly among university students, has become a global public health concern. The rising popularity of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) necessitates a deeper understanding of their usage patterns, attitudes, and beliefs, especially within specific demographics such as university students in Northern Jordan.
Aim: This study aims to investigate the attitudes and beliefs toward vaping among university students in Northern Jordan and It also seeks to explore any gender-based differences in attitudes and beliefs regarding vaping use.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, surveying 500 university students in northern universities. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire that assessed demographic characteristics, smoking status, and attitudes and beliefs about e-cigarettes. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Chi-Square tests were utilized for data analysis.
Results: The study revealed a high prevalence of vaping, with 62.0% of participants currently using e-cigarettes and 38% being former users. Attitudinally, 57.4% of students held negative views towards vaping, while 42.6% had positive attitudes. In terms of beliefs, 61.8% were skeptical about the benefits and safety of e-cigarettes, whereas 38.2% held strong affirmative beliefs. Gender-based analysis indicated significant differences, with females showing more negative attitudes (69%) compared to males (51%), and marginally significant differences in beliefs (p=0.051).
Conclusion: The study highlights a substantial engagement with vaping among university students in Northern Jordan, coupled with diverse attitudes and beliefs. The findings underscore the need for targeted public health interventions and educational programs to address the misconceptions and promote informed decision-making regarding e-cigarette use
