بينما ينصب معظم الاهتمام في أغلب دراسات شعر الرثاء بشكل عام وأشعار رثاء النفس بشكل خاص على مواضيع كالحب والحياة والوقت والموت، إلا أن القليل منها ركزت على رغبة الراثي في البقاء حياً في وجدان وذاكرة محبيه من خلال شعره مع عدم رغبته أن تكون الذكرى سببا في ألم الفقد. هذه الدراسة ستأخذ بعين الاعتبار تحليل أشعار رثاء النفس من ناحية نفسية سيكولوجيه من خلال رغبة الراثي أن يعيش بعد مماته في وجدان وقلوب محبيه أملاً أن لا تكون الذكرى سببا في شعور محبيه بالألم. إذا ستكون هذه الدراسة مخصصة للتركيز على مسارين اثنين وهما: رغبة الراثي في أن يعيش طويلا في ذاكرة محبيه بعد مماته. أمل الراثي أن لا تكون الذكرى سبباً في الألم. أشعار الرثاء المستهدفة في فكرة البحث تم انتقاءها من فترات شعرية مختلفة وهي قصائد وسونيتات مختارة من أشعار وليم شكسبير، جون دن، جون كيتس والشاعرة كريستينا روزيتي.

 While most interest of nearly most literary studies about the poetic genre of the Elegy in general and the poetry of the Elegy of the Self as a subgenre in particular is on themes of love, life, time and death, this research is concerned with the theme of continuation through verse. This study is undertaken in order to examine this theme in the poetry of the elegy of the self from a psychological point of view through the poet's explicit or implicit wish to be remembered and missed in their poetry versus the hope that those who are left behind would not suffer the poet's everlasting departure. The scope of the thesis is restricted to two main categories; The poet's wish to be remembered and missed after death, and their hope that those who are left behind would not suffer their definitive doom. The targeted poetry are selected sonnets and poems from different poetic eras, mainly for William Shakespeare, John Donne, John Keats and Christina Georgina Rossetti
