Background: Despite the fact that nurses have an important role in caring for the special needs of dementia patients, it has been shown that dementia patients do not always receive the high- quality care due to lack of knowledge and skills and other barriers such as negligence. As a result, there is a need to design a dementia education program for nurses working with persons with dementia in order for them to provide high-quality care by gaining the necessary knowledge and attitude. Purpose of the study: The main goal of the study is to explore the effectiveness of a specialized program in increasing the nurses? knowledge of dementia. Methods: The current study utilized a quantitative, quasi experimental, one group pretest- posttest design. Nurses from governmental, private, university and military hospitals, were recruited and were given one session of 6-hour of education regarding the care for people with dementia. Results: The present study consisted of 103 participants. Paired t-test was used to calculate the score difference pretest and posttest. The results revealed that there was a statistically significant difference in Dementia Knowledge Assessment Tool score with mean difference -1.58 [CI95%: - 2.26--.90], p<0.001. Similarly, there was a statistically significant difference in Total. The Dementia Attitudes Scale score with mean difference of -4.42 [CI95%: -8.18--.66], p<0.05. a significant difference was reported in regards of Comfort score with a mean difference of -2.13 [CI95%: -3.93- -.33, p<0.05. on the other hand, there was no improvement in terms of DAS knowledge score p> 0.05. In regards of the attitude; Over all, there was an improvement in comfort score from 43.42?7.89 to 45.55?7.92 out of 70 posttest. Similarly, there was slight improvement in Knowledge score from 52.05? 8.26 to 53.10?7.70 out of 70. While, the highest improvements were noted in total The Dementia Attitudes Scale score (out of 140) from 94.23 (13.38) to 98.66 (13.16). Conclusion: The present study found that education sessions directed to nurses had a significant improvement in knowledge and attitude. This result highlights the importance of introducing educational programs that aims at a specific area of knowledge and practice
