Abstract
This study was based on an introduction, a preamble, three chapters, and a conclusion, in the introduction, I mentioned the importance of the topic, the reasons for choosing it, and the curriculum of the study, the preamble came to shed light on the concept of the ego and the other, as a concept related to personality, and as this novel, a character-driven novel, I used this concept, as mentioned in the theory of psychological criticism, because it is the most capable concept to reveal personality dimensions, and its transformations, Also, the novel rose to the idea of betrayal, and its psychological repercussions, and the concept of betrayal was linked to the character of the hero, and with five women, each woman symbolizes one of the five senses, and women occupied the most important space in the structure of the novel, It is counted as the structural center for it, this attendance caused the first retrospective shift in the character of the hero, his sense of betrayal appeared, as if it was the most important psychological factor, and his personality will be radically transformed.
This transformation came to establish a structural and psychological relationship between the writer and the city on the one hand, and between the woman and the city on the other hand, according to special narrative methods at the level of language and composition, So, the structure of the novel came to reflect the structures of the society, and transformations in the city and society, it revealed the impact of the place in the formation of the ego and the formation of social structures, In a specific period of time, it was marked by wars, strife, growing terrorism, and extremism, as opposed to arts and culture.
This study was anticipated by the writer's novelist experience, and the technical development that this experience witnessed at the level of the narration, in terms of style, language, and construction, it came in line with the transformations of the society and the emergence of the corruption class, distortion of cities and assassination of dreams, Suleiman Al-Tala 'personality was in opposition to Siraj?s Ezzeddine, Rival's character came to blend with the image of Amman, Rifal's rape is an image of Amman's rape, as a representative picture of rape, to which Arab capitals are subjected.
In this novel, Jalal Barjas establishes a hidden relationship between reality and ideology, and reproduces the concept of class, capital domination, and corruption, over the media, the economy and the society, in addition to his relentless pursuit to restore human awareness of the virginity of the place, and his struggle with the capital class, which strives to distort the civilized action, and alienating the image of the city, and presenting it according to a different model of the value and social system, which constitute the awareness of the Arab person.
That is why Siraj?s Ezzeddine personality appeared as a perfect one, which Lifts up from the values of art, freedom, music, and beauty, in contrast to the values of distortion, betrayal, and corruption, which were represented in the character of Suleiman Al-Tala ', That character which is considered a symbol of corruption, and a symbol of capital investment in changing the structure of society, and containing terrorism and extremism, and employing it as a service which serves the hegemony of the money.
Jalal Barjas took the woman as a symbol, through which he monitors all social transformations, and has established an organic and objective relationship between the woman and the city, he made every woman a symbol of sense and value, and he made every sense incapable of revealing and anticipating what is happening, each sense reflected his impotence by imagination, he sought to turn his impotence into a strength in the face of the corruption and evil of that class, this impotence was the main factor in changing the character's function, and that character became a symbol that fights foxes and terrorism, and foxes here are a symbol of that class that raped cities and women.
However, the Siraj's Ezzeddine project ends with his assassination in the bombing of the Gallery building; however, the optimistic view of the writer insists that his project for change remain in the personality of the child Ahmed, and in Rival's restoration of herself
