This study aimed to investigate the effect of using problem solving assisted with videos on 9th grade students' productive skills (speaking and writing) and motivation in Jordan. The participants of the study consisted of (64) 9th grade students at Sabha Secondary School for girls at North-East Badiah Directorate of Education in Jordan during the second semester of the scholastic year 2018/2019. They were assigned randomly into two groups: Group one consisted of 31 students which was chosen as an experimental group and was taught the productive skills using Problem Solving Strategy and group two consisted of 33 students which was assigned as a control group and was taught using the conventional method of teaching.
The researcher taught the experimental group, whereas the teacher taught the control group. Both groups were taught the same material, on the same days of the week. Both groups sat for a pre-post-test to assure that both groups have same linguistic ability level in the productive skills. Data were collected within six weeks. Means, standard deviations, One-way ANOVA, and Scheffe tests were used for all the variables of the study.
The findings revealed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental and control groups due to the method of teaching (problem solving strategy assisted with videos vs. conventional method) in favor of the problem solving strategy in the productive skills on the post-test.
The findings of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group students productive skills due to using problem solving strategy.
The findings also revealed that the experimental group students' attitudes towards using problem solving strategy assisted with videos were almost positive. Problem solving strategy improved to be a vital tool of motivation. It motivated students to study hard regardless to time and efforts. Students became more active in classrooms using problem solving strategy.
A number of recommendations were presented to the Ministry of Education and teachers, and Learners
