تُعد صورة الطفل بمختلف أطيافها من الصور الشائعة في القصائد العربية من العصر الجاهلي إلى العصر الحديث، لكنها لم تحظ باهتمام الدارسين، ولم تدرس بصورة معمقة تبين دلالاتها ورموزها. ومن هنا جاءت دراستي بعنوان "الطفل في الشعر العراقي المعاصر" وهي محاولة لبيان رموز لفظة (الطفل) وما يدل عليه حسب السياق الذي ترد فيه، وكذلك بيان الجوانب الجمالية في كيفية توظيف تلك الرموز من خلال اختيار نصوص شعرية لشعراء الحداثة وردت فيها صورة الطفل، حيث ارتبطت هذه الصورة بالإطار الفكري والسياسي لتوجهات الشعراء العراقيين لتخلق معها دلالات متعدّدة انسجمت مع الصراعات والثورات المتلاحقة وظّفها الشاعر للتعبير عن مواقف فكرية وسياسية وفنيّة.
وكما هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى استجلاء صورة الطفل في الشعر العراقي المعاصر، وكشف رموزه لدى مجموعة من الشعراء الذين مثلوا توجهات أغلب شعراء هذه مرحلة وهي مرحلة تحولات سياسية، ولّدت أيديولوجيات فكرية بثّها الشعراء في قصائدهم، وهم: بدر شاكر السياب، ونازك الملائكة، وعبد الوهاب البياتي، وأحمد مطر، ومظفر النواب.
وبذلك خلصت الدراسة إلى مجموعة من النتائج المتضمنة رمز الطفل سياسيا وذاتيا واجتماعيا، وتوضيح جماليات الرمز من تناص وغموض وتقنيات أخرى.

The child image is one of the images that radiates at the Arabic poems from the pre-Islamic era to modern era but that topic has not received the interest of the searcher?s writing and hasn?t studied deeply to show their implications and symbols.
From that point, I titled my study ?The child image connotations and its implications in the modern Iraqi poetry?.
It is an attempt to explain the symbols of the child term and what that word indicated by depending on the context in which it appears. As well as the statement of the aesthetic aspects of how to use those symbols by selecting poetic texts from Iraqi modernity poets where received the child connotation, so this idea connecting with intellectual and political frameworks trends Iraqi poets to create multiple connotations caught up with the successive conflicts and revolutions employed by the poet to express intellectual, political, and technical positions.
And this study aimed to clarify the image of the child in the modern Iraqi poetry and revealing its symbols with a group of poets who have appeared orientations the most of this stage poets. The political transformation generated intellectual ideology that the poets broadcast in their poems. As: - Badr Shakir Sayyab, Abdul-Wahab Al-Bayati, Ahmad Matar, and Muzzafar Al-Nowab.
The study concludes many results included the political and socially child symbol, explain the symbol aesthetics, and clarify the ambiguity of some techniques
