The purpose of this study is to investigate the level of reading comprehension among third intermediate grade students in Iraq. To achieve this aim the study sought to answer the following questions: 1. What is the level of reading comprehension among third intermediate grade students?. 2. Are there any significant statistical differences at the level of (? =0.05) in the means of third intermediate grade students in the levels of reading comprehension attributed to gender?. The sample of the study consisted of (450) male and female students of third intermediate grade students in Huwayjeh district at Kirkuk educational directorate representing (10%) of the population selected randomly. To achieve the aim of the study the researcher developed a test in reading comprehension then checked its validity and reliability. Means, Standard deviations of students' scores were calculated and (t) test was used to explore the differences between genders. The findings of the study showed that: 1. The levels of reading comprehension among third intermediate grade students were low according to the criteria used by the researcher which provided that the level is week if students' scores on the four levels (literal, deduction, critical and evaluative) between 0-8 scores. 2. Reading comprehension within its four levels (literal, deduction, critical and evaluative) as a whole were better among female students than male students. Meanwhile, there were no significant statistical differences on each level for any gender. Based on the findings of the study the researcher presented several recommendations
