The study area is characterized by the deposition of the Quaternary sediments near the shore of the Gulf of Aqaba. Three units were observed and described in details on the bases of their lithological characteristics which are: 1- Red sandstone unit. 2- Aqaba formation. 3- conglomerate unit. 4- coral reef unit, and 5- alluvium and upper conglomerate unit. The importance of this study lies in that it is present a new formation from Quaternary period to the Quaternary geology of Jordan "Aqaba formation" and by presenting the developments of the margins of the Gulf of Aqaba during Quaternary and reflects the climatic change during this period. The suggested Aqaba formation was subjected during the field survey to a detailed description and analysis. It is assumed that the formation was deposited in a stream fresh water environment because of the deposition of greenish layer of clay beds and clay minerals, also the presence of types of Ostracoda microfossils which also suggested a fresh water body prevailed the area during the Pleistocene period. The Quaternary sediments of suggested Aqaba formation and other units of the study area indicates a wetter climate than the present climate because of the absence of evaporates deposits such as halite and gypsum. X-ray diffraction analysis for clay minerals show the absence of polygorskite which supports dry conditions. The deposition of the uplifted fossil reefs in the study area indicates that the area was subjected to a transgression of the Red Sea combined with tectonic operations representing by uplifting processes affecting by the formation of the Dead Sea Rift Valley. The presence of three major cycles of fossil coral reef have been recognized on the Gulf of Aqaba suggested that the eustatic changes in sea level, coastal erosion processes and faulting has led to the formation of different terraces of the uplifted fossils coral reefs and the eustatic sea level changes governing the development of these reefs correspond to more wet and interglacial episodes of the late Pleistocene
