تحاول هذه الدراسة الوقوف على ظاهرة استدعاء الشخصيات في الشعر العباسي ومدى تفاعل الشعراء في توظيفه في أشعارهم، والأثر الذي يضيفه الاستدعاء في العمل الأدبي على المستوى الفني.
تقع هذه الدراسة في مقدمة وتمهيد وثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، حيث اشتملت المقدمة على عرض لحدود الموضوع وأهميته والأسئلة المطروحة وتقسيمات البحث، وأهم الدراسات السابقة.
أما التمهيد فقد تناولت فيه الحديث عن مفهوم الاستدعاء وموقف القدماء والمحدثين منه،
وعرجت على دوافعه، وثقافة الشاعر وأهميتها، وعلاقة الشاعر بالمتلقي.
وتناولت مادة الدراسة في الفصل الأول استدعاء الشخصيات الدينية، وإظهار علاقة الشاعر بالنصوص الدينية في التوظيف الشعري، وقد جاء هذا الفصل في ثلاثة محاور هي: شخصيات الرسل والأنبياء، وشخصيات الصالحين، وشخصيات الأشرار وأعداء الدين.
وفي الفصل الثاني، بحثت الدراسة استدعاء الشخصيات التاريخية ومواطن توظيفها في شعر الشعراء العباسيين والصلة التي تربطهم بتاريخهم وتاريخ الأمم الأخرى، واشتمل على محورين هما: الشخصيات السياسية والاجتماعية، والشخصيات الأدبية والعلمية.
أما الفصل الثالث، فلقد تناولت فيه قضايا فنيّة في الاستدعاء، بدأتها بأنماط توظيف الشخصية المستدعاة، ودلالات الشخصية المستدعاة، والصورة الفنية، والتقييم الفني للاستدعاء.
وأخيراً، جاءت الخاتمة وقد حملت جملة من النتائج التي توصل إليها الباحث في هذه الدراسة وأهمها:
أولاً: وجود علاقة وثيقة بين شعراء العصر العباسي وموروثهم الثقافي، إذ كانوا كثيري الإتكاء عليه من خلال استدعائهم للشخصيات التاريخية في زمن ما قبل الإسلام.
ثانياً: إن الشخصيات الدّينية التي ورد ذكرها في كتاب الله هي من أبرز الشخصيات التي تم استدعاؤها أو استدعاء أحداثها في القصيدة العباسية.
ثالثاً: إن موضوع المديح من أبرز الموضوعات التي كثرت فيها ظاهرة الاستدعاء للشخصيات الدينية والتاريخية.
وأخيراً: إن ثمة تفاوتاً بين الشعراء العباسيين في التعاطي مع ظاهرة الاستدعاء، حيث إذ تبين أن شعراء ما سموا بالمحدثين أمثال أبي نواس وأبي تمام وابن الرومي والبحتري والمتنبي هم من أكثر الشعراء تناولاً لهذه الظاهرة.

This thesis attempts to shed light on the phenomenon of employing pre-Islamic characters in Abbasid poetry and the extent to which Abbasid poets used that in poetry. It also seeks to highlight the artistic value of that trend, if we may call it.
It is comprised of an introduction and three chapters: review of literature, discussion and conclusion. The first chapter sets the framework, significance, major thesis questions, thesis skeleton and review of related literature.
The Preface discusses the conceptual definition of employment in poetry and how old and contemporary critics view it. It also tackles the motives behind its use, significance of the poets? cultural background and the relationship between poets and their audience.
Chapter One pinpoints the employment of religious characters and shows the connectivity between the poets, the religious texts and its poetic adaptation. This chapter addresses three variables: characters of the prophets and messengers, those who are God-fearing and righteous and those who represent evil and hold an antireligious attitude.
Chapter Two delves into the employment of historical figures, areas in the Abbasid poetry in which such figures were employed and the connection between the era of Abbasid poets and eras of other nations. It is comprised of two sections: the social and political figures and the literary and scientific figures.
Chapter Three examines some technical issues of the poetic trend such as ways and/or patterns of character employment, significance of characters, imagery and artistic evaluation.
Finally, the conclusion holds the findings that the researcher has reached.
First, a very close relationship exists between the Poets of the Abbasside Era and their cultural heritage, as they have heavily relied on it, in their acknowledgments of pre-Islamic characters.
Second, the religious characters described in the Holy Qur?an, are among the most notably acknowledged characters in the Abbasside poetry, that along with citations to their life events.
Third, the matter of Poetic appraisal has been evident to the abundant utilization of historic and religious character acknowledgment in ?earning a living? at the time.
Fourth, inconsistencies exist amongst Abbasside poets when it comes to them dealing with the phenomenon of poetic character-acknowledgment, as it has been shown that ?Modernizing Poets? at the likes of Abu Tammam, Al Mutanabbi, Ibn al-Rumi, Buhturi, and Abu-Nuwas have been those who most commonly have dealt with this phenomenon in their works
